In 1985, the Arts Council initiated an exhibition program, putting changing exhibits of work by Kalamazoo County artists in the offices of a downtown architectural firm. An offshoot of this exhibition program, Art Hop, was established in 1995 as a quarterly event. In 1998, the Art Hop moved to its current, monthly event status, and continues as a dynamic, artistically relevant exhibition throughout downtown Kalamazoo on the first Friday of each month. Expanded versions occur during March, June, October, and December, and have included record numbers of artists, hop sites and attendees during the first half of 2008.
